Governor Murphy's Budget Leads to Fiscal Cliff
Al Barlas, Assemblyman 40th District, 03/06/25

We are now at that point in the year when we discuss and review the state’s upcoming budget. Governor Murphy recently introduced his FY26 Budget, which is $1.4 billion, and 2.5% higher than last year’s. This proposal continues the Trenton trend of uncontrolled spending and includes dozens of taxes and fee increases on New Jerseyans.
While we wait for the full budget details, we do know that there are school districts that we represent and throughout the state that are proposed to receive cuts in their aid, once again. What defies logic to me is how can we increase spending by over ONE BILLION DOLLARS while still cutting aid to schools and towns throughout the state?
